TONY Abbott is putting his race to the federal poll aside to instead focus on running for the kids.
The Opposition Leader has signed up for the 14km-run in the Herald Sun/CityLink Run for the Kids, stepping out for a trial around The Tan yesterday to gain a taste of the course, ahead of the March 24 event.
Joining Team Nick members Jo Neumann and David Gough, Mr Abbott said he was thrilled to take part in this year's event to support the Royal Children's Hospital.
"As a parent, I know what it is like when your kids are in a children's hospital," Mr Abbott said.
"It can often be a difficult and unsettling time, but parents and carers know that their children will receive the best possible medical care at the Royal Children's Hospital.
"The Run for the Kids is a great way to support the work of the Royal Children's and I'm really looking forward to it."
He urged Victorians "to once again get behind this year's Good Friday appeal".
Ms Neumann and Mr Gough will run with more than 70 friends and family
in Team Nick, in honour of Nicholas Timms, who died from cancer in 2008 after extensive treatment at the RCH.
The Herald Sun/CityLink Run for the Kids is on Sunday, March 24, and raises money for the Good Friday Appeal.
To enter, log on to runforthekids.com.au. Victorian entries received before March 8 will go into the draw to win a Mazda2 Maxx hatch.
