THE iSnack2.0 name is officially no more after Kraft replaced it with a name that's even more cheesy.

More than 30,000 Australians voted for Vegemite Cheesybite as the name of the new product, a combination of bread spread Vegemite and cream cheese.

It followed widespread disapproval of iSnack2.0, which was announced as the new name on AFL Grand Final day after months of suggestions from about 38,000 entrants to a naming competition.

Of those polled on the weekend, 36 percent went for Cheesybite, 23 percent Smooth, 20 percent Vegemate, 8 percent Snackmate, Vegemild, 7 percent and Creamymate 6 percent.

Product marketers have branded the Kraft name change as a stunt, designed to generate unpaid advertising.

"We have been overwhelmed by the response of the Australian public; it has been an insightful debate,'' Kraft Foods Australia New Zealand head of corporate affairs, Simon Talbot, said in a statement.

Last week, Mr Talbot denied the initial naming was a cynical PR stunt, but admitted the name iSnack 2.0 was "a donkey".

The original Vegemite is a salty, slightly bitter spread made from brewer's yeast that Australians put on toast or crackers or use to flavour soups.

The new version was launched in July, carrying a label that read, "Name Me.''

The Kraft website states Cheesybite jars will begin to replace iSnack 2.0 on shelves in the coming months.
