Vegemite sledges UK rival Marmite over Aussie Test win with cheeky newspaper adverts as Ashes conflict gets a bit ‘tasty’

“Vegemite tastes like back-to-back tons on your return test”: Ashes fever is so contagious it has now spread to a war of words between rival yeast extracts from the two nations. Really.

Vegemite is making sure Australia’s first Test thrashing of the Poms in the Ashes leaves a bitter taste in the Barmy Army’s mouth.

Australia’s favourite yeast extract spread has taken out full-page ads in British newspapers reminding the Poms of the loss.

"We wish @marmite all the best but don’t expect Aussies to be bowled over by their antics at the cricket .... Catch ya at Lord’s!” wrote Vegemite on their Instagram feed.

The advertisement is in response to Marmite, the British version of Vegemite, handing out jars at the Ashes to prove it tastes better.

Vegemite conceded the Poms would prefer Marmite - because their palates weren’t tough enough.

“Vegemite tastes like back-to-back tons on your return test,” it reads.

“Vegemite tastes like a come-from-behind victory by 251 runs.

“You lot won’t like the taste of Vegemite because Vegemite tastes like Australia.
