Two men arrested at Jindabyne as police crack down on drugs at snow

POLICE have made their first drug arrests for the snow season around the NSW ski fields but expect the activity may increase with the weekend’s snowfall.
Extra police officers started arriving in Jindabyne — the base for many tourists over the snow season — last weekend for the annual drug and anti-social behaviour operations.
The Queen’s Birthday long weekend was relatively uneventful with a lack of snow keeping the influx of visitors to a minimum.
Despite this, police made two drug arrests this week in Jindabyne.
A 28-year-old man was found with a small amount of cocaine tody and charged with drug possession.
Another man was found with cannabis last Sunday but issued with a cannabis caution.
Monaro Police District Inspector Mark Murphy says drug seizures may rise as more people head to the area for the recent snowfall.
“That’s what the statistics tell us,” he said.
“People weren’t coming down the first weekend but there seems to have been some good snowfall over this weekend.
“We are targeting illegal substances, including possession and people driving under the influence of drugs.”
