Turrella shooting: CCTV shows moment gunman fired hail of bullets at Mohammed Saab

Shocking CCTV has emerged of the moment a Sydney dad was shot in a hail of about a dozen bullets outside his home on Wednesday. WARNING: The video shows graphic content

Turella Shooting

Police are investigating whether the botched hit on Sydney dad felled in a hail of bullets outside his home was connected to the Middle Eastern organised crime groups.

Shocking vision of the attack emerged yesterday, showing the moment Mohammed Saab was ambushed outside his Turella home on Wednesday morning.

The vision shows Mr Saab, 37, walking to the driver’s side door of his black ute outside his house in Knoll Ave at 7am.

His attacker emerges from the rear passenger seat of a black hatchback waiting on the opposite side of the road.

With one foot on the road, the hooded gunman points his weapon over his opened rear door and fires what appears to be about 13 rounds in three seconds at Mr Saab.

Mr Saab appeared to shelter behind the driver’s side door of his own vehicle as he was being shot. As the shooter got back in the rear seat, Mr Saab ran behind his vehicle and back through his front gate and into his house, clutching his stomach. Two women can be seen running out to meet Mr Saab at the front door of the home as the shooter left in the getaway car.

The vision was captured on the victim’s own home CCTV system.

Mr Saab was shot in the shoulder, chest and leg before being taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition.

Police are understood to be looking into whether the shooting was linked to Sydney’s Middle Eastern underworld.

There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Mr Saab, a local businessman.

Outside his home a cluster of bullet casings remained on the roadway and police seized his bullet-riddled ute as evidence.

St George Police Area Command detectives are in control of the case, looking for the shooter and their getaway driver, and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Police Chief Inspector Chris Hill said on Wednesday Mr Saab was the intended target of the attack and police had not yet recovered the weapon used in the attack.  “Some of the information that has come forward leads us to believe this was not a random incident,” he said.

“Any public place shooting is horrific, it shouldn’t occur.”

It is understood Mr Saab’s young children were inside the home at the time of the attack.

“His kids were crying ‘don’t die dad’,” one neighbour told Ten News.

Another neighbour, who works with Mr Saab’s construction company, said the victim was a “top bloke”.

“He’s very nice, he’s the best,” the neighbour said. “To be honest with you he’s a role model.”
