The man accused of murdering Queensland woman Toyah Cordingley will be back on Australian soil this week after a million-dollar reward ended his four years on the run.

Rajwinder Singh’s extradition is expected to happen midweek, with authorities remaining tight-lipped about the arrangements.

The former nurse was arrested in New Delhi in November, around three weeks after The Courier-Mail announced $1 million would be paid to the person who helped police find him.

Three Queensland detectives, including a homicide detective and two officers from North Queensland, will accompany Singh on the flight after they travelled to India a week ago.

Toyah’s body was discovered by her father at Wangetti Beach, north of Cairns, in 2018, the morning after she failed to return home from walking her dog.

Police have alleged Singh boarded a plane that same day, flying from Cairns to Sydney and then on to India the next day.

The 38-year-old left behind his wife and three children when he allegedly fled the country.

It is understood investigators worked with financial institutions to determine bank cards belonging to members of the Singh family were being used in the Punjab area, despite their owners being in Australia.

After the announcement of the million-dollar reward, police were provided with information from members of the public that Singh was being looked after by a religious sect.

He was arrested by Indian police while driving to New Delhi for a medical appointment.

Singh consented to returning to Queensland where he is expected to face trial for murder. He has denied having anything to do with Toyah’s killing.

Singh’s father, Amar Singh, denied his son was responsible for Toyah’s murder after visiting him in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

“He is innocent,” he said.

“(I) never thought of seeing my son in jail. It is a difficult moment for any parent.

“I have full confidence in Australia’s justice system that it will return my son to me.”

He said he was awaiting visa approval that would allow him to travel to Australia.

Other relatives told The Courier-Mail Singh “is aware of his extradition and has mixed reactions”.

“He is happy to see his family after around four years, but he understands that it will be a long fight to justice,” one said.

“He has gone through his case file multiple times, read the extradition treaty and fully understands what needs to be done to prove himself innocent.

“He wants to meet his family first. He misses them.”

Singh previously told The Courier-Mail: “I am willing to go to Australia as I have done nothing wrong. I will reveal all details before an Australian court when I am back.”
