A unique act combining electronic music and the didgeridoo is returning to Townsville for a Halloween-themed event, much to the delight of local techno lovers.
Jamie Bridgman, better know as Tribal Freque, is a techno producer and didgeridoo player from Newcastle and has seen a surge in popularity with audiences loving his unique mix of sounds.
Coming back to Townsville on October 18, after previously performing in February this year, he is booked to perform at the Wicked Techno Wonderland event at Otherwise Bar.
Mr Bridgman said the city has an “incredible energy”.
“It’s certainly a privilege to not only perform here, but alongside such an amazing line-up of other DJs and live performers,” he said.
After watching his perform back in February local Wulgurubaka man and music fan Joshua Newman said he was looking forward to watching Tribal Freque perform again.
“Jamie not only respectfully acknowledges and recognises this traditional Indigenous art form, but he brings an exciting new energy as he combines yidaki with techno music,” he said.
The Wicked Techno Wonderland event has a stacked line-up of international, interstate and local DJs, as well as live performers including professional pole dancers from The Pole Park and circus performances by Kara Enigma and Saige Quadrio.
The Halloween-themed event also encourages attendees to dress up, with prizes for best costume.
Put on by Townsville events group Joyn Us, event organiser Helen Smyth said it was exciting for Tribal Freque to return.
“We were lucky enough to host Jamie for a techno music event earlier in the year, and he blew the crowd away, so we just had to have him perform again,” she said.
“We also had so many inquiries about when he would be back. Jamie’s incredible sound, skill and talent at combining techno music and didgeridoo is something truly unique.”
Supporting local special needs and abilities organisation, Happy Feat Townsville, a portion of ticket sales will be donated to the not-for-profit dance group.
“Happy Feat is an inspirational dance group that provides a very caring, supportive, encouraging and fun environment for people with special needs and differing abilities,” Ms Smyth said.
“What better organisation to support than one that brings people together through music and dance.”
Whether a long-time techno fan or new to the scene, Ms Smyth said everyone is welcome.
Tickets are all sale now from www.joynusevents.com or can be purchased at the door.
Wicked Techno Wonderland will be held on October 18 at Otherwise Bar, Flinders Street starting at 8pm.
