Workers across Townsville are rolling up their sleeves for the Red Cross Lifeblood Team Competition.

The initiative between Townsville Logistics, Townsville Marine Logistics and Sun Metals is encouraging workers to donate badly needed blood and plasma to the Red Cross Lifeblood.

The competition is spearheaded by ambassadors Adrian Farren and Cody Sims, representing Marine Logistics and Sun Metals respectively.

Mr Farren and Mr Sims have donated blood and plasma to the Red Cross more than 300 times combined.

“It’s something I’ve done for decades now, so I want to get that awareness out there,” Mr Farren said.

“Donating for so many years, it’s an ongoing benefit you get to see.”

“Knowing that I’m giving back to the community and helping others keeps me going,” Mr Sims said.

The competition aims at boosting awareness and donations to Red Cross Lifeblood.

“The organisation is a bit low in terms of donation numbers here and across Australia, so we’re doing whatever we can to help out,” Mr Farren said.

“Lots of people have never done it before, so it’s a good opportunity for them to come in for the first time.”

“The work Red Cross Lifeblood does is so important for the community.”

The workers hope the drive will encourage not just Logistics and Sun Metals workers to donate, but the rest of the community.

“It’s all about raising awareness and getting more donations,” Mr Sims said.

“It’s a great cause and you see the benefit throughout the community,” Mr Farren said.

“If you can’t get in the chair, talk to friends and family.”
