Townsville’s 2nd 24/7 veterinary hospital has officially opened its doors to thousands of local pets on Friday.

NQ Care provides emergency and critical care veterinary services, as well as medicine and surgical referral consultations and services for all of North Queensland’s furry friends.

Managing director Taleta Hompas said the hospital has been in the works for more than 12 months, and the team is “really excited” to get the ball rolling.

“We have a fantastic team of 31 staff who are starting with us and there’s a lot of excitement ahead of opening,” she said.

Mrs Hompas said the locally owned hospital was founded by herself and three additional women who are “passionate about delivering gold standard veterinary care.”

“We’ve got Katy Craig, who’s the director of people and culture, and head of the emergency department,” she said.

“Dr Jenna Rickards is the director of clinical services and internal medicine and registrar.”

“And Kimberley Litster is the director of nursing and operations.”

NQ Care is also the second veterinary hospital in North Queensland with a CT unit.

Mrs Hompas said she hopes the clinic can deliver much needed veterinary support for pets and pet owners in Townsville.

“We saw the need in Townsville with the growth in the pet ownership population and owners expectations for veterinary care services for their pets who are members of the family,” she said.

“We wanted to provide that really compassionate, community focused, gold standard veterinary care to North Queensland.”

The hospital is located on Woolcock St, Currajong. No appointment is required for emergencies.
