Enjoy what life throws your way and take pleasure in everything you do, that’s the advice from Townsville’s latest resident to bring up a century of fine living.
Jean Goldstraw was born on May 6, 1925 in Eastbourne, England, but has called Townsville home for the past 30 years.
She said it’s “incredibly exciting” to be celebrating her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family, and it’s important to find joy in all aspects of life.
“Enjoy all the things you do, going to different places and visiting different people,” she said.
Ms Goldstraw has spent her life moving, spending time in places such as London and Coventry in England, and Brisbane.
Bolton Clarke diversional therapist Debbie Sheppard said the aged care residents always enjoy celebrating a 100th birthday.
“It’s amazing to see them so healthy and happy,” she said.
“Jean especially, she’s such a strong lady and always happy.”
Ms Sheppard said Ms Goldstraw still can’t believe she’s turning 100.
“She said the other day ‘I could never be 100’,” Ms Sheppard said.
Ms Goldstraw’s daughter Lynda Colwell joined for celebrations, and shared memories of her and her mother.
“She used to ride up and down on a bike to be with me on my horse,” she said.
