AN increased number of learner drivers were granted their P-plates in the last financial year at Townsville customer service centres.
Transport and Main Roads data exclusively obtained by the Townsville Bulletin shows 58.59 per cent of learner drivers passed their driving examination at the Garbutt Customer Service Centre in 2019-20. This number was up from 52.31 per cent in 2018-19.
Cannon Park Customer Service Centre also reported an increase with a pass rate of 54.47 per cent in 2019-20 from 53.69 per cent in the previous financial year. IN-STeP Driving School general manager and driving instructor Dean Wilson said the positive examination pass rate was “a great thing to see”.
“We have seen an increase in our pass rate in the last 12 months and we have seen an increase in lessons undertaken,” he said. “It means people are being taught the correct manoeuvres and they are becoming road users with great skills and knowledge.”
He said “cracking under pressure” was the most common reason for learner drivers not to pass their driving examination.
