Townsville speed racer Brock Nolan has won a national title at the Australian Kart Championships.
The nine-year-old went on a prolific run at events across the country this year to claim the title and the #1 plate in the national seven-to-10-year-old division.
Supported by eight Townsville businesses, Brock never finished outside the top-2 in five starts this year.
“Karting is the starting point for most Formula 1 or V8 Supercar drivers and I hope to one day drive a Supercar,” Brock said.
Brock competed in fields of up to 40 racers, in five different states this year. With his third straight win – in Melbourne last month – he won the national title.
His first win was heart-stopping, mother Rebecca said.
“A 0.06 second victory. He was second for 19 laps then took the pass on the last lap, last corner. Gave me a heart attack,” she said.
Brock started practising and racing across Queensland at six years old, got experience against larger fields down in Ipswich and then cleaned up in the national championships.
Mum Rebecca and dad Brendon travel with their son, and Brock’s coach from Townsville Kart Centre transports his and other karts around the country.
He races a Lando Norris kart, his engine builder is in Bundaberg - but Brendon works on it on race days - and for winning the title this year he collected a new engine.
Even though Brock has won Townsville, Queensland and now Australian titles and awards, the 9-year-old enjoys fishing and playing footy and soccer with his schoolmates.
