“I had planned to open the shop in February but the project was delayed due to COVID so it feels really great after a long wait to be open,” he said.
“I believe Townsville Charcoal Chicken is something Townsville needed and something the community wants.”
With eight-and-a-half years experience in the food industry, Mr Wijesooriya also owns a local kebab shop and cafe in Townsville and once owned Chico Rio in Flinders Street.
It took four months to fit out the shop which was designed by Mr Wijesooriya.
After graduating from Townsville TAFE with a Diploma of Cookery, Mr Wijesooriya said his passion for good food was at the forefront of his mind.
“A lot of people are concerned about their health so I really wanted to do something healthy for the community,” he said.
“Townsville Charcoal Chicken is authentic using locally sourced ingredients with no preservatives and 100 per cent cooked with the charcoal.”
