A Townsville manufacturer will put on three more employees and upgrade its equipment with a huge injection of funding set to put it ahead of the interstate rivals.
Australian Expedition Vehicles will use more than $125,000 to meet current industry standards with the purchase of an autonomous steering robot from the United Kingdom.
The new equipment will give the North Queensland company the upper hand and allow it to test electronic stability control systems of vehicles.
Managing director Michael McMillan said the funding will make their business more competitive.
The company has the capacity to approve brake testing equipment for light and heavy vehicles.
Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the State Government funding was helping the local business grow to new heights.
The state’s manufacturing industry employs more than 165,000 people and contributed about $20 billion per year to the state’s economy across the last decade.
Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing Glenn Butcher said more jobs meant a more resilient economy.
Mr Butcher said the $13.5 million Manufacturing Hubs Grant Program supports the regional manufacturing sector to implement technologies and practices.
