Townsville has snagged a top-10 spot on a most livable cities list, founded on 14 criteria such as diversity, safety, internet speed and number of healthcare facilities.
Among 30 of Australia’s ‘best cities’ as per AvenuePerth.com, Perth ranked number one. Brisbane (three) and the Gold Coast (seven) were the sunshine state cities ahead of Townsville at number 10.
Toowoomba tallied 11th, Cairns came in 13th, Bundaberg 19th, followed by Rockhampton in 20th and Mackay 21st. Hervey Bay took the 27th spot.
The website’s research found Townsville had a high average monthly income and generally affordable living expenses.
The data says Townsville’s average monthly fuel cost was it’s strongest comparative category, ranking fourth of the 30 cities, at $151.30. The safety index score was our worst data point, 23rd of 30.
Townsville pipped Brisbane for median mortgage and rent, cost of living and fuel costs.
The city on the Ross River was ahead of Cairns for median income, safety, cost of living, fuel costs, number of banks, number of restaurants and the number of schools.
