Mount Louisa Community Kindness Project overwhelmed with local donation generosity

Looking to support locals in need is the idea behind a ‘kindness project’ that has already caught the attention of many Townsville residents who want to spread the love.

LOOKING to support locals in need is the idea behind a ‘kindness project’ that has already caught the attention of many Mount Louisa residents.

The Mount Louisa Community Kindness Project was born out of patriotic spirit on ANZAC Day this year while Rhonda Glen stood on her Mount Louisa drivewa`y.

The group intends to nominate a charity every two months to support and collect donations from the public including toiletries, food and clothes.

Ms Glen said the formation of the group was the answer to her desire to give back to her “happy place”.

“I pondered on ways to keep that feeling of community after lockdown because people in our community are truly kind, caring and generous,” she said.

Just by posting on the Mount Louisa Facebook group page and handing out flyers, the group has had hundreds of donations flood in at local drop-off points around the suburb including United Chemist, Skinny’s and Dawson’s Moving and Storage.

Ms Glen said the first charity nominated was the Townsville Women’s Shelter.

Committee member and Mount Louisa resident Debbie Graves said she immediately joined the group.

“I loved the idea that it was specifically for the residents of Mount Louisa, rather than the whole city because it just makes it feel more personal,” she said.
