Mount Isa youth crime: Teen trio denied bail after alleged ram-raid spree

Three teenagers have been charged and denied bail after allegedly using a stolen car to ram-raid businesses during a crime spree in Mount Isa. Here are the details.

Three teenagers have been charged and denied bail after allegedly using a stolen car to ram-raid businesses during a crime spree in Mount Isa.

Police have charged three boys, aged 12, 16 and 18, with a whopping 50 offences in relation to multiple break-ins reported across Mount Isa last week.

The alleged crime spree saw the popular Happy Valley store and Pamela Street Foodworks ram raided with a stolen car last Thursday morning.

Senior Sergeant Adrian Rieck, Mount Isa’s Officer in Charge, said the young offenders were quickly apprehended thanks to a rapid and sustained response by a team of local police.

“We will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of those that commit these types of crimes and attempt to make the people in our city feel unsafe,” he said.

“Twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week, we will be on the streets using all our methodologies to prevent, disrupt, and respond to crime.” Senior Sergeant Rieck added.

It comes after police charged 437 people with around 456 offences across Mount Isa as part of Operations Whiskey Unison which began in March last year.

A 12-year-old Townview boy was charged with 14 property offences, including entering a dwelling, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was refused bail to appear in Mount Isa Children’s Court at a later date.

A 16-year-old Townview boy was charged with the same 14 property offences. He was refused bail to appear in Mount Isa Children’s Court at a later date.

An 18-year-old Townview male was charged with 22 property offences, including four counts of entering premises, two counts of unlawfully using a motor vehicle, and eight counts of possessing something intended for use in connection with an offence.

He was refused bail to appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court at a later date.
