A court has heard of the downward spiral of a father of two after he turned to drugs when his partner was pregnant with their second child.

Jock Allan Angus Love, 33, was on parole for prior drug convictions and bail when Love was caught three times reoffending last year.

The Townsville Supreme Court heard on April 29 Love was found with .628g of methamphetamines after a police traffic stop.

Three months later on July 31, the court heard Love returned a positive roadside drug test for methamphetamines and cannabis, the court heard.

A raid at Love’s Annandale property on August 21 uncovered just over 4g of methamphetamines, cannabis, cash and a glass pipe.

Crown prosecutor Monique Sheppard said an analysis of Love’s mobile phone found an offer to supply .2g of methamphetamines.

“The defendant knew that the drugs he was supplying was not simply to his customer but was to be on-supplied to others,” she said.

Love pleaded guilty to 12 charges including drug possession and drug supply.

Defence barrister for Love Dane Marley told the court his client was a father to two young children.

“He commenced using methamphetamines when his partner was pregnant with their last child as he was under pressure and didn’t have support,” he said.

“In the context of his life, it has been a more recent addiction that he has formed.”

Love was supported in court by his partner of 13 years and the mother of his children who wiped away tears as she listened to her partner’s drug abuse.

Mr Marley said Love was the sole breadwinner for his family working as a concrete worker and had voluntarily undertaken rehabilitation and parenting programs.

Justice David North was quick to comment to Mr Marley saying, “You need to drive home to him the consequences for his family of his behaviour,” he said.

“The hardship flows around, it goes everywhere.”

As Love sat in the dock wearing a blue suit, he nodded his head acknowledging Justice’s North comment.

Love was sentenced to two years’ jail with immediate parole.
