It was a packed house at TheatreiNQ’s Clubhouse in Hyde Park for opening night of The Assignment, a nostalgic and heartwarming comedy written and directed by Terri Brabon.
Performed by the talented emerging actors in Theatre iNQ’s Bridge Project training program, the play is set in a North Queensland high school in 1989 and captures the charm, chaos and colour of teen life in the 80s.
The story follows Jamie Kelly, played by Emma Smith, a dance-loving dreamer whose world is turned upside down when she’s accused of cheating on an assignment. With vibrant sets, fun 80s costuming and a killer soundtrack, the production takes audiences on a hilarious and touching trip down memory lane.
The Assignment runs until June 21, with tonight’s performance already sold out. Theatre iNQ’s next production will be Julius Caesar, for their annual Shakespeare Under the Stars in Queens Gardens, September 4 to 20.
