A LUCKY Townsville teenager has been given the ultimate boost to his career, securing a lucrative position at The Ville Resort-Casino.
Ignatius Park College Year 11 student Damon Marshall is one of a handful of boys selected as a recipient of the Journey 2 Jobs program.
The program works with Indigenous high school students to pursue study or training to secure employment when they graduate.
Damon started a school-based electrical apprenticeship working one day a week at The Ville last month.
He said he was enjoying the work.
“I feel like it is a great opportunity to do a trade. It is what I want to do when I am older,” he said.
“My parents say they are really proud of me and dad always wanted me to get a trade especially as an electrician.”
By the time Damon finishes school next year, he will only have to complete a further two years of the apprenticeship before he is a qualified electrician.
“I am looking forward to getting more experience and to be able to do more stuff on my own,” Damon said.
The Ville Resort-Casino CEO Michael Jones said the program was empowering.
“We’re so pleased to have Damon on board as part of our maintenance team at The Ville and from all reports he’s settled in well and picking up the tricks of the trade really quickly,” he said.
