Home Hill News and Cafe gives out free coffee to community

Residents of a small town had an extra spring in their step today after a local cafe wanted to do their part to ease customers stress following a wet week. Find out how they did it.

A small town cafe left plenty of smiles on customers’ faces this morning after giving out free coffee following a tough week of battling the wet weather.

Home Hill News and Coffee is often a hub for residents and Tuesday was no different.

The owners, Ken and Shay Linton ran out of milk on Monday, and decided to put on a free coffee day after a fruitful restock trip.

“Yesterday our stock was running low of milk so we drove down to Bowen and when we got there the Woolworths manager from Bowen donated milk to us and to Home Hill Bakery,” Mrs Linton said.

“Our Bear Bones coffee had given us extra coffee this week so we decided to have a free coffee day from 5am to 10am just to boost up the community.

“Its been a long week and I think everyone needs a bit of a hit of coffee.”

Mrs Linton said they had been lucky so far to avoid any major flooding.

“We were scared and then we were really worried,” she said.

“We started packing up the bottom parts of our shelves. Ken had everything ready to come in and that’s when they came and said the BOM readings were wrong.”

“I supposed we aren’t out of danger yet, we’ll have to wait and see what happens over the next few days but hopefully we’ve avoided a flood.”

She said they had been inundated with messages from people cut off from the township making jokes about getting coffee delivered by drones.

“(The response from the community) has been amazing,” Mrs Linton said.

“When we had a bit of a quiet bit between 5 and 6 this morning before it all amped up we stood out on the road and gave some semis some coffees and they were most appreciative of that.”
