New study shows coffee is good for the heart

IT is a dream come true for a budding barista who has taken over a cafe, as she chases her cup of success.

Michelle Spies is now the proud new operator of Little Pegs cafe at Hermit Park after taking over the lease last week. The 24-year-old said she had dreamt about owning her own coffee shop.

“Since I was 12 years old, I always talked about opening my own cafe and I always wanted to be a chef and always loved making cakes,” she said.

The love for hospitality runs deep for Ms Spies, who made her first cup of coffee when she was 14.

After working in the industry for eight years, she enrolled in a biomedical science degree at JCU. But she realised where her heart belonged. “I would always find myself coming back and picking up shifts in hospitality last year because I missed the industry so much.”

Ms Spies said she hoped Townsville would love coming to Little Pegs to relax. “Little Pegs is a place where people can feel welcome and where they can come for great coffee and food and a positive atmosphere.”
