The Brewery is challenging happy little vegemites to show their true blue Aussie colours this Australia Day.
It will be the first time The Brewery has opened on the January public holiday and is hoping to make the event an annual tradition.
In honour of Australia Day celebrations The Brewery will be holding its inaugural Vegemite licking competition.
Participants will be required to lick a Vegemite smothered Australian flag plate clean while they are blindfolded with their hands behind their back.
The first person to lick their plate clean to expose the Australian flag will be crowned the king or queen.
The Brewery manager Tristian Bredhauer said the contest was an ode to the Australia Day spirit.
“We were chucking around ideas of what was the quintessential picture of Australia and Vegemite has an Australian vibe,” he said.
“How else can you prove you are Australian and we thought a vegemite licking competition is how to prove it.”
Mr Bredhauer said he wanted to unite Townsville on the most patriotic day on the calendar.
“This year, it is more important than ever to bring together everyone after being apart last year,” he said.
“It is about having fun and a good time.”
Participants will be able to sign up on the day with the competition to take place at 1pm.
