A NEW bridal store is determined to turn the around experience of buying a wedding dress for plus size brides to be.
Alex Jurgens’ Curvella Bridal has opened on Charters Towers Rd, offering the full experience for brides size 14+.
Ms Jurgens, who also owns Blushous Beauty and Bridal, said she felt Townsville needed a dedicated plus size store to give women the best experience.
“From Blushous, I quickly realised the plus size ladies were under supplied,” she said.
“It was very hard to be able to cater for everybody.
“I felt it was time that curvy ladies had just as much choice as other ladies and deserve the same bridal experience with just as much choice as any lady.
“Typically the bridal landscape is one that is sample sizes come in a size 8-12, and those stores will have a rack of size 16, size 18, and they will have one rack and five dresses to choose from at the very best.”
Ms Jurgens said she wanted to make sure her store would be a better experience, with Curvella Bridal stocking sizes from a 14 to a 28, with the ability to order up to a size 32.
She said at many stores, plus size brides often struggle to put the sample sizes on, with dress sizes often running smaller than a “street size”.
“We may not have it in (a bride) perfect size, but we have it in a try-on-able size,” Ms Jurgens said.
“You can still put it on, and show you how pretty it looks on you, and order you the perfect size.”
The store may also be the only dedicated plus size bridal store in Queensland, after one in Brisbane closed down.
“As far as I know … there is no other wholly and solely dedicated plus size bridal in Queensland, apart from us,” Ms Jurgens said.
“I have modelled myself on the way some of the American stores do it, and there is some really amazing plus size bridal in Florida, and America seems to be, of course, a bit ahead of the game.
“But we are very much behind the times.”
