A CAIRNS family had their weekend plans derailed after water restrictions ruined the family of six’s reunion.
Lisa Evans has been living in Townsville with her daughter, Aivah, since early December while the four-year-old undergoes treatment at Townsville University Hospital.
This weekend was the first time the family had been all together in 11 days.
Ms Evans said the family had been looking forward to splashing about on The Strand.
“I told Aivah that there is an awesome waterpark and we would have to visit the park after she had recovered from her surgery,” she said.
“We have been recovering since the third of December and Aivah’s brothers and sisters were coming down from Cairns this weekend so they were all going to play under the big bucket.”
Instead, the family had to compromise, spending the day at Tobruk Pool and eating gelato along The Strand.
Ms Evans said despite the water woes the family would try again.
“I am really sad but we understand. It is just upsetting for the kids but at the end of the day it is what it is,” she said.
“We are hoping that the big bucket works (today) before everyone leaves, otherwise we will just have to come back.”
