Townsville residents have shivered through the chilliest winter morning so far this year as temperatures dropped to 10 degrees.

TOWNSVILLE residents have shivered through the chilliest winter morning so far this year as temperatures dropped to almost 10 degrees.

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded temperatures dropped to 10.2 degrees at Townsville Airport about 5.30am on Friday morning, but stated it would have felt more like 8.9 degrees.

The mercury slowly started to drop from about 11pm Thursday night and stayed below 11 degrees for most of the night and into the morning.

It’s the coldest morning recorded in Townsville this year.

Despite a chilly morning, temperatures are expected to rise to a maximum of 25 degrees for another sunny North Queensland day.

The weekend forecast shows temperatures dropping to a minimum of 14 degrees on Saturday and 18 degrees on Sunday.

Lights winds are expected both days.
