Townsville Yacht Club’s Deck Restaurant has announced new locally-sourced menu items, giving locals the chance to taste some of the best North Queensland seafood has to offer.

Restaurant manager Nichole Bowen highlighted the seared sea scallops, Spanish mackerel and garlic prawns.

“We’re trying to use locally sourced seafood as much as we can, and just being on trend with what is seasonal and bringing in more fresh produce,” she said.

Ms Bowen said the new seafood options have brought in a different crowd, and she’s loved seeing new faces try the restaurant’s top tier seafood.

“Lately we’ve been known for a lot of our changes to the menu for probably the seafood, that’s bringing in a big crowd,” she said.

Aside from the restaurant’s locally sourced items, Ms Bowen said some other new items have been popular.

“We’ve recently brought in the Moreton Bay bugs, they are a winner,” she said.

“Feedback is good, everyone is really enjoying the new menu and the changes that we’ve done.”

Ms Bowen has brought a wealth of knowledge to her role as restaurant manager, having worked in the hospitality industry for around three decades.

She said her love for working with people and food has kept her going.

“It’s one of those industries that’s forever changing, chefs are always coming up with new inventive ways to cook,” she said.

Ms Bowen said the Yacht Club is a relaxing break from the “hustle and bustle” of Palmer Street, with an inviting atmosphere.

“I think a lot of Townsville locals forget that we’re here because we are a little bit hidden away from Palmer Street,” she said.

“It’s 50 meters down the road from Palmer Street, and the views of the marina are gorgeous.”
