Townsville Fire fans paint the town orange for Game 2 of Championship Series

Townsville Fire fans turned up the heat on an already scorching day in the city, descending on the Entertainment Centre in their thousands to cheer on the team in the make-or-break home final.

Townsville Fire fans turned up the heat on an already scorching day in the city on Sunday, descending on the Entertainment Centre in their thousands to cheer on the team in the make-or-break home game of the finals series.

A record-breaking crowd of more than 5000 began filling in the seats as doors opened, dressed head to toe in their best orange outfits and accessories.

The arena completely sold out for the first time ever, after it was announced on Tuesday that more than 1000 additional tickets would be made available, due to demand from fans.

Well before tip off fans came down to make the most of game day “Fire Fiesta” pre-game activities which included facepainting, games, a photo booth, food and drink vans as well as an army truck display and performances from the army’s brass and drum band.

There was also an appearance from Courage the eagle from the 2nd Calvary Regiment.

Fire superfans Spencer and Harvey McCarthy and Gus Loveday got into the spirit, complete with orange hair and fairy floss.

The kids said they were ‘very excited” to see the Fire play and were very excited that the whole arena had been opened up after missing out on the first round of tickets.

“It’s very cool they have opened up the whole Fire Pit,” they said.

Jack Turner and Cameron Douglas enjoyed the pre-game activities and took the chance to get the best view from the army tank on display and said “without a doubt” the Fire were going to win.
