Tourism NT’s top social media hits for 2024 for have been revealed – with an adorable Instagram reel of a baby tawny frogmouth taking the top spot.

The Alice Springs Desert Park claimed the crown for the most popular post on Tourism NT’s Instagram channel @NTaustralia for 2024 – with the adorable reel of a baby tawny frogmouth capturing the hearts of more than 2.5 million viewers, and accruing 263,025 likes.

The Park’s business development coordinator, Holly Wyatt, said she was “honoured to showcase Central Australia’s unique flora and fauna to the world through social media.”

“The engagement from the community has been incredible, and we warmly welcome visitors to follow us and pop in and see our tawny frogmouth, who has now outgrown his parents.”

In second place, footage of the treacherous Cahill’s Crossing – swamped with crocodiles – captured the attention of more than 1.5m TikTok accounts and gathered more than 2.6m views.

Stunning views of the Red Centre featured prominently in a number of other top posts.

Coming in a close third was a sneak peek into travelling the Red Centre by van, with the views of iconic Uluru captured by @lapwithnomap.

Golden hour at Kata Tjuta National Park – captured by @visitcentralaus – was the fourth most popular post on @NTaustralia.

The Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs appeared in the top 10 yet again this year with their adorable reel of a baby joey saying g’day from their mother’s pouch.

Tourism NT has a combined following of 1,223,264 followers across domestic and global social media channels which plays a role in promoting the Territory to both Australian and global audiences.

Territorians and visitors are encouraged to continue sharing their holiday snaps, tagging @NTaustralia and using #NTaustralia for a chance to be featured on Tourism NT’s official channels.

Chief marketing officer at Tourism NT, Tony Quarmby, said social media was crucial for tourism in the Territory.

“We know the NT is home to the most gorgeous sunsets, exhilarating adventure and iconic landscapes and it is wonderful to share these scenes with the world,” he said.

“These posts demonstrate the incredible beauty and diversity of the Northern Territory, enticing visitors from around the world to come and experience the uniqueness of the NT for themselves.”
