The Snitch: Brothers For Life gang boss Farhad Qaumi doles out medical advice

Brothers For Life gang leader Farhad Qaumi has been caught on a police phone tap giving his brother medical advice about the correct dose for taking steroids, advising him to swallow 100.

Bassam Hamzy, the Brothers for Life gang leader's life of crime inside Goulburn supermax prison.

HE’S the murdering gangster trying his hand at being a jailhouse doctor.

But would you take medical advice from Brothers For Life gang leader Farhad Qaumi on the correct dose for taking steroids?

Neither would we.

But that didn’t stop Qaumi handing out medical advice to his younger brother Mumtaz in a conversation that was caught on a police phone tap.

Referring to heart-stamped steroid pills that had been smuggled to Mumtaz in jail, Farhad issued the following prescription: “You should eat 100 of them.”

The call was intercepted in 2015 when Farhad was incarcerated at Goulburn Jail and Mumtaz in Long Bay.

Police were investigating Farhad’s associate Amber Williams, who smuggled the steroids to Farhad and Mumtaz in jail. Once she distributed the drugs, Mumtaz consulted his brother for guidance on how to take the steroids.

But he was also worried about the health impacts and the potential for contracting liver cancer.

“But I tell you, you should take 100 of it brother. I’m telling you man … don’t worry about your liver,” Farhad was recorded saying.

Earlier in the call, Farhad instructed Mumtaz to split the steroid haul with their youngest sibling Jamil, who was also behind bars.

“You should take 50 for yourself and the other 50 you should give to Jamil,” Farhad said.

In another call to Williams, Mumtaz said: “They’re all oxymetholones, supposed to give you liver cancer. But you know that’s how it is.”

DANGEROUS LIAISONS

Guess which criminal lawyer got off-side with their client’s family and friends when they suspected the legal eagle of having sex with client in between court appearances?

We’re told the lawyer didn’t do the best job in their client’s court case.

They weren’t hired again after the family of the client suspected the pair were checking in to cheap motels instead of going through their brief of evidence.

HAMILL’S EASTER EGGS

Is it a rare occurrence of a judge showing a bit of personality with an in-joke? Or just a coincidence that has got certain sections of the legal fraternity in a flap?

Whatever the case, the judgments of NSW Supreme Court Justice Peter Hamill have developed a cult following.

Why is that? Each time a judge makes a ruling, they publish a judgment explaining their reasons. At the top of each judgment is a catchword section that contains brief bullet points that summarise the issues in the case. One of Snitch’s spies has pointed out that there have been comical entries in Justice Hamill’s catchwords.

The best example was a winking emoji in the catchwords of a judgment of a Brothers For Life gang member, who he sentenced to nine years over a shooting.

In another BFL judgment, Justice Hamill referenced in his catchwords a musing from barrister Ron Driels, who ruminated during the trial as to “whether where we are and what we’re doing may all be an illusion”.

“They’re just comical things that happen in the course of a trial,” our spy said.

“He will find a way to segue to it in his judgment and then reference it in the catchwords.

“It’s gotten to the point where a section of the legal fraternity will check out his judgments just to see what random thoughts he has slipped into the catchwords.”
