The Project panellist Steve Price renews threat to tear up golf membership if Dan Andrews joins

The shock jock has said he would tear up his golf club membership if former premier Dan Andrews joined, saying sharing the course with him would be ‘torture’.

Project panellist Steve Price has doubled down on his threat to tear up his golf membership if Dan Andrews joins, refusing to let go of a long-held grudge.

The retired premier listed playing “a bit of golf” among the activities he was excited to pick back up once he had more free time on his hands, but he’s facing considerable opposition from the members of the Portsea Golf club should he ever apply for a membership.

Price first made the threat during an appearance on Sky News last week, reminding viewers the former Victorian Premier was responsible for banning Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula residents from golf courses during the pandemic.

“This is the Premier who stopped us playing golf for two years during Covid,” Price said on Wednesday night.

Asked again about the matter during a Monday appearance on The Project, Price doubled down and said he was “teed off” about the issue.

“I was genuine when I said if he’s allowed to become a member, I’m not going to play there,” he said.

“I couldn’t think of anything worse than spending four hours walking around a golf course with Dan Andrews. It is my idea of torture.”

Andrews’ application would still need to be considered as per the club’s constitution, which often involves the approval of the existing membership.

The Project co-host Sam Taunton described Price’s stubbornness as “maybe a little bit petty” and said he was worried the former Premier will be unable to find a venue to enjoy the sport.

“No it is not,” Price replied.

“This happens to everyone who wants to join a golf club. Your name goes on a board and it is up there and the members have the right to say yes, I want that person in the golf club or I don’t.”

Price added it was not the first time he had voted against the membership application of a “well-known” person.
