A CABBIE has had his car impounded under hoon laws after being nabbed at almost twice the speed limit.
About 9.30 last night the taxi was caught doing 114km/h in a 60km/h roadworks zone on the Monash Freeway.
Despite impounding two cars on the same section of road, police were amazed to find drivers still speeding along the stretch.
The Broadmeadows man, 38, was issued with a $584 fine, a 12-month loss of licence, and hen had his vehicle impounded for 48 hours.
Stonnington TMU have made it no secret that they are patrolling the area to ensure road rules are obeyed and for safety of all on the Monash.
"At the end of the day we want to make sure that everyone gets home safely to their families and loved ones, " said Senior Constable Tyrone Cerminara.
"Drivers doing these speeds are showing a blatant disregard for the road workers, police and other road users in the area."
