Trent Henderson to embark on 110 marathons in 110 days for mental health support fundraiser

Trent Henderson knows it will take “every single fibre of my being” to complete 110 marathons in 110 days – but a deeply personal motivation is driving him to achieve great things.

Running 110 marathons in 110 days may sound like an impossible task but Hobart man Trent Henderson says it’s the least he can do as he seeks to raise vital funds for mental health support.

Henderson was in a dark place a few years ago and began reflecting on a talk he’d seen SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY founder Mitch McPherson deliver at his high school in 2014.

“I was facing some personal challenges and worked through some tough times relating to my mental health, which had led me to a place with thoughts of suicide,” Henderson said.

“Remembering Mitch’s message prompted me to reach out to my close circle of people and I found support through talking to them about how I was feeling.

“This, together with my love of fitness, performing stand-up comedy, and my passion for running, has helped me completely turn my life around.”

Now Henderson is embarking on the mission of a lifetime, running 42.2km every day for 110 days in order to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention and “spread kindness”.

He is aiming to raise $6000 for SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY and set off on his first run on Monday.

“I’ll be working during the day [from] 6.30am to about 4pm, and then hopefully [I’ll be] home by about 4.30pm and [have] a bit of a pre-workout snack, then running by 5pm,” Henderson said.

“Most of the time through the week, it’ll be [running] around the tracks of New Norfolk, and then occasionally on weekends, I’ll branch out and I’ll go to different locations and … make it easier for other people to be able to run with me.

“In my mind, I am extremely confident. I know that this is going to take every single fibre of my being to complete, but I’m going to get there.”

McPherson said he was taken aback by Henderson’s herculean effort.

“We are always so grateful for the support we receive from the community in terms of donations and fundraisers,” he said.

“Last year, we saw a man push a piano up kunanyi and another man run around the state. We’re starting 2025 with yet another incredible physical challenge: 110 marathons in 110 days.

“[It’s] just staggering.”

Henderson recently completed the 2024 Melbourne Marathon and the Adelaide Marathon and has been supplementing his training regime with swimming and weight training at FitZone at Derwent Park.
