MACQUARIE Point is set to be revealed as the site for a game-changing $750m stadium development and community precinct by the state government, as the AFL presidents prepare to vote on the future of a Tasmanian team on Monday.
Extensive analysis into the right site for a potential multipurpose roofed stadium in Hobart identified six potential locations rated from 1-100 by State Growth.
Venue sites on the Queens Domain at the Crossroads (39.5), Upper Domain Rd (25), the TCA ground (40.25) and Lower Domain Rd (48.75) all rated low on State Growth’s points-based stadium site criteria taking into account environmental, cultural, location, buildability and governance.
The two standouts were Regatta Point (71.25) and Macquarie Point (74.5) making them the prime options for the stadium.
The Mercury understands Macquarie Point will get the seal of approval on Sunday, just in time for the 18 AFL presidents to see the state’s team proposal for the first time.
