Tasmanian obstetrician charged with two sexual offences by Tasmania Police

A Hobart obstetrician and gynaecologist has been charged by Tasmania Police detectives following an investigation. What we know.

A Tasmanian obstetrician and gynaecologist has been charged by Tasmania Police detectives on Friday in relation to sexual offences.

Tasmania Police confirmed that the male doctor from the Hobart area was charged by detectives from the Family and Sexual Violence Division of Tasmania Police with one count of indecent assault and one count of assault with indecent intent.

Police alleged that these offences occurred in 2022 and 2025, with other sexual related offences “currently under investigation”.

Police said the man had been previously stood down by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) prior to the charges.

“It is acknowledged that alleged offences of this nature are deeply disturbing, and Tasmania Police encourages anyone with information about sexual abuse to come forward and report, regardless of the passage of time,” a police spokesperson said.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on September 1.
