TASMANIANS are being warned not to pack away the winter woollies, with a cold front bringing chilly days this week, along with rain, hail and even snow.
Sky News meteorologist Alison Osborne said it would be a cool, wet week for Hobart, with cloudy conditions and a “cool top of 16” on Tuesday.
“There is a high chance of some showers on Wednesday with even cooler conditions as the change moves through on Thursday delivering some showers.”
Ms Osborne said another cold front was expected late on Sunday.
“(It will be) much cooler on Monday with a top of just 13 degrees so don’t pack away those jumpers just yet.”
Elevated areas right across Tasmania are forecast to see snow above 800 metres on Wednesday and Thursday.
For Hobart and the South East forecast district, a high chance of showers and possible small hail is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with snow falling above 1000m.
Central and West Tasmania is forecast to see patches of early morning frost, showers and small hail, with snow falling above 800m on Wednesday and Thursday.
Damaging winds lashed northeast Tasmania yesterday, moving across the Western Tiers and Tamar Valley bringing 100kmh+ gusts.
Larapuna (Eddystone Point) recorded a southerly wind on Monday of 70kmh gusting to 103kmh, and 80kmh+ wind gusts recorded at Low Head.
A strong wind warning is in place for Central North Coast, Banks Strait and Franklin Sound, Upper East Coast and Lower East Coast throughout Tuesday.
Spring rainfall for #Tas was well above average, except in the south-west. In October, floods in northern Tas were the most significant in the region since June 2016.
