‘Supermum’ and trail runner Maggie Lennox competing in world series while several weeks pregnant

Supermum and trail runner Maggie Lennox isn’t letting her second pregnancy slow her down as she takes on the world’s best in Switzerland.

While the opportunity to represent her country is one that’s filling Maggie Lennox full of different emotions, the talented endurance athlete is determined to show her daughter that anything is possible.

The 32 year-old is set to compete at the Trail Running World Series in Switzerland later this month in what will be her first time representing Australia.

Already a mum to two-year old Peggy, Lennox and her partner, fellow endurance athlete Alex Hunt, are expecting their second child together early next year but going through a second pregnancy isn’t stopping this ‘supermum’ from continuing to chase her dreams.

Qualifying for the world series after competing in four gruelling Australian qualifiers, Lennox is also fresh off a second straight Freycinet Challenge win last week on Tasmania’s east coast.

Set to fly to Europe on Sunday to begin preparations, the busy mum will go it alone overseas but knows she has the full support of both family and friends watching on back home, even if the lead-up is throwing a range of emotions her way.

“I’ve got this huge mix of emotions right now,” Lennox said.

“On one hand, I’m so excited for this opportunity and everything it represents in terms of the hard work and the dedication both Alex and I have put in. And then on the other hand, there’s some nervousness, especially with my body going through so many changes.

“It’ll be really hard not having her (Peggy) there. She’s always there to see me finish, so that part will be really hard, but I think it’s also showing her that she can chase her dreams and hopefully aspire to do whatever she wants to do and that there shouldn’t be boundaries for her.

“At the end of the day, I feel empowered knowing that I’m pushing through despite the hurdles that I’ve faced.”

Taking up the sport following success as a swimmer, Lennox credits her supportive partner Alex, who has won the past nine Freycinet Challenge’s, as a huge reason for her own success.

“Alex is a massive role model and support to me and I wouldn’t be able to get through half of these events without him,” she said.

“He’s the most dedicated person to his training and I’ve always looked up to that and made sure I can support him to achieve what he wants to achieve as well.”

Lennox will compete in four races over four days in Switzerland and while she’s competed overseas before, the chance to compete for her country isn’t one that’s lost on her.

“It’s a pretty amazing opportunity to be able to represent your country,” she said.

“I just want to go out there and enjoy the experience and be exposed to international racing because these girls are the best in the world.

“And to also show other mum’s out there and definitely other women who are athletes that want to continue competing after pregnancy, that the opportunity is still there and you can come back even stronger.”
