Initial designs for a brand new shopping centre in Kingston have been revealed, after Coles was secured as the anchor tenant for the retail precinct.

The centre, which was previously known as Huntingfield Village, will now be called Spring Farm Village.

“We’ve secured Coles, we had Coles and Woolworths both fiercely wanting to be here,” Tipalea Partners CEO Scott Spanton said.

“It’s going to be the everyday shopping needs for that community, there’ll be some food options, pizza, sushi, a cafe, bakery.

“We’d like to get a post office if we can … there’ll be nails, massage, hairdresser, barber.”

Medical services are also planned for the development.

“Everywhere we go, there’s need for more and more medical services,” Mr Spanton said.

“We’ll have a medical precinct here, we’re looking at a radiology offer as well, which will be a wonderful second anchor to get.

Mr Spanton said the shopping centre would services suburbs further south of Kingston.

“This is all about the growing communities of Margate, Snug, Huntingfield and further afield,” he said.

“This will be a different generation of shopping centre to the others, it would be a level above them.

“For those coming from the city after work, it’s very easy to get into here rather than through the Channel Highway.”

The developers hope to start construction early next year and open the new shopping centre in mid-2025.

“We’d like to lodge our DA in September, it shouldn’t be too contentious, this site’s already had a DA over it for a bulky goods centre, they dealt with all the issues with the trees and that’s all been resolved,” Mr Spanton said.

“There’s almost 1.6ha we’d be dedicating back to council, zoned for those sensitive uses.”

A meeting to update the public will be held in September to gauge what the community wants.

“We want to get the community to have a sense of ownership,” Mr Spanton said.

“Ultimately at the end of the day, I know what I want in a shopping centre but I don’t shop here, you guys tell me what you want and tell me what’s important to you.

“We’ve had good engagement with council to date, both councillors and council staff and we’ve made some changes to our design to reflect the engagement we’ve had with them.”

“We really want to increase, for example, the pedestrian connectivity.”
