Tasmanian voters have tired of the Liberals and would prefer a Labor government, according to polling conducted on behalf of the opposition.

A PYXIS poll of 2204 Tasmanian voters carried out in late June revealed that despite the Liberals leading Labor in opinion polls, there was significant sentiment in the electorate that the governing party had been in office too long.

When asked “Which is closer your own view about the Tasmanian Liberal Government?”, 53 per cent of those surveyed responded “it’s time to give someone else a go” and 34 per cent agreed with “they deserve to be re-elected.

Those intending to vote for independents were most strongly of the view it was time for new government, with 73 per cent support.

A Labor internal analysis of multiple polls released publicly during the campaign shows that on a two-party preferred basis, a majority of Tasmanians would prefer Labor to from the next government.

The analysis gave Labor a lead varying between around ten and 19 percentage points.

Two party-preferred preference flows do not necessarily translate well to Hare-Clark multi-member electorates, although Labor said it was a reflection of anti-government sentiment in the electorate.

He announced a plan to expand access to bulk-billed primary healthcare for free, by expanding outreach mobile clinics across the state under the banner TassieDoc 2U.

“Currently, Moreton Group provides a mobile primary health outreach clinic service in southern Tasmania during the day, funded by the State Government.

“They have recently been backed by our Federal Labor colleagues with ongoing funding to provide their evening outreach clinics in the south, north and north west of our state through Primary Health Tasmania.

“Labor will expand these services to provide the same level of free, comprehensive care delivered by nurse-practitioners and doctors in the north and north-west as in the south.

“In addition to outreach care, the service will act as a referral pathway to Labor’s 10 free TassieDoc GP clinics across the state, working alongside the TassieDoc 24/7 after-hours telehealth service to create a comprehensive TassieDoc healthcare network.”

Mr Winter said the plan would involve spending $150,000 a year to buy and fit out a new mobile clinic and $275,000 a year to operate the services.
