Pene Snashall of Magnolia Flowers in South Hobart is preparing for her first Valentine’s Day as a florist
After more than 30 years working in public relations, Pene Snashall decided to follow her dreams when she recently bought a floristry business. Now she’s preparing for the busiest day of the year.

Pene Snashall fulfilled her childhood dream of owning a flower shop six months ago and now she’s preparing for her first Valentine’s Day frenzy.
Ms Snashall bought the pre-existing Magnolia Flowers in South Hobart in September and has already received orders for about 45 bunches of a dozen roses ahead of February 14, as well as roughly 20 bunches of carnations, chrysanthemums, and lilies.
“I think it will be our busiest day of the year,” she said.
“I think for many people, they find it difficult to express love or affection every day or just in small gestures,” she said. “So [buying flowers] gives them a really lovely opportunity to do so and they can write down their thoughts on a card if they find it a little difficult to express themselves.
“You can bring tears to someone’s eyes with even just a really, really small bunch of flowers. You don’t have to go all out for Valentine’s Day.”
Ms Snashall said red and champagne roses were proving to be the most popular Valentine’s Day purchases and many customers were choosing to order wine and chocolates to package with their flowers.
Before owning Magnolia, Ms Snashall spent more than 30 years working in public relations.
She said she didn’t regret her choice to make a change and follow her dreams.
“This [opportunity] came up and I’ve just grabbed it,” Ms Snashall said.
“I’ve lived in South Hobart for 30 odd years, so it was just a beautiful and nice progression and I’ve been so well supported by locals.”
