Fatal Mobray collision – July 1

An 80-year-old man has been killed after his car collided with a truck at the intersection of University Way and the East Tamar Highway near Mowbray.
The Launceston man was believed to be turning right off the highway when his vehicle hit a truck travelling in the southbound lane at approximately 2.45pm.
Inspector Nathan Johnson from the Launceston police division said the truck driver had been taken to hospital for precautionary reasons but appeared unhurt.
“Investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” Mr Johnson said.
“We are calling for witnesses ... if anyone has either dash cam footage or witnessed the crash, I would ask them to contact Launceston police station.
There were no passengers in either of the vehicles involved in the smash.
The East Tamar Highway has now reopened in both directions.
Bridgewater truck rollover – July 1
Updated 4.15pm
A truck rollover has reportedly impacted traffic a major roundabout linking the state’s north with the south.
Tasmania Police are at the crash scene on a roundabout which links Midland Highway and East Derwent Highway at Bridgewater.
The driver of the truck has been transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with what are reported to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area until the crash is cleared.

Police investigating attempted Dodges Ferry carjacking – July 1
Updated 3.25pm
A man is eluding police in Dodges Ferry after it was reported a man, allegedly armed with a knife, attempted to carjack a vehicle on Carlton Beach Road around 1.30pm Friday afternoon.
According to Police, the man was unable to start the vehicle and fled the area on foot.
Police are combing the area for the alleged offender.
No physical injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
