Bruny Island born musical artist Maddy Jane may live on the mainland, but her music still hearkens home.

Jane brings her uniquely Tasmanian storytelling to her new EP released on Friday “Clear As Mud” which features a song dedicated to the dark, cold winters in Tasmania.

The song June captures the weight of seasonal depression and makes a promise that it will pass.

“In Tassie, June is our darkest time,” Jane said.

“But I found hope in knowing that even the low points won’t last forever.”

The EP also features a song about the state’s longest lived urban legend – the continued existence of the Tasmanian tiger.

“If you’re Tasmanian, you believe it’s still out there,” she said on the song Thylacine.

“It’s hope. It’s rage. It’s a belief in something you can’t prove.”

Clear As Mud Pt 1 is the first chapter in a new body of work for Jane, it follows her widely praised 2023 EP Island Time and debut album Not All Bad Or Good.

Jane has played support slots for internationally acclaimed artists such as Harry Styles and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

She has more than 10 million streams to her name and her songs “resonate with anyone who’s ever felt like they were figuring it out on the fly”.

Jane said she was entering a “new chapter” with the release of this EP.

“It’s the most powerful and self-assured place I’ve ever made music from,” she said.

“I’ve come to understand that songs are spells—they hold meaning, intention, and energy.

“I’m not stuck in a machine anymore. This is just the beginning.”
