Lipscombe Larder boss John Fiotakis faces court over alleged Lamborghini claim
The man who owns the iconic Lipscombe Larder has appeared in court over a 2019 charge – in which he allegedly tried to rip off almost $200,000 in insurance over a Lamborghini crash.

The man who owns the iconic delicatessen and bakery, the Lipscombe Larder, has had his 2019 charge of trying to rip off an insurance company of almost $200,000 over a Lamborghini crash heard briefly in court.
John Spiro Fiotakis has co-owned the Sandy Bay fine foods institution since 1992.
The shop briefly to another Sandy Bay Road location after the Fiotakis’ lease expired in 2022, but the beloved shop is now based at 3 Victoria Street in the Hobart CBD.
Mr Fiotakis was charged years ago with one count of attempting to dishonestly acquire a financial advantage on June 3, 2019 – however the case has moved slowly through Tasmania’s court system.
On Tuesday, Mr Fiotakis dialled in to the Supreme Court of Tasmania by telephone for a brief administrative hearing into his case.
Justice Stephen Estcourt heard that Mr Fiotakis had recently changed lawyers and was now being represented by Dinesh Loganathan – who required more time to be briefed before the matter could go ahead.
Mr Fiotakis, who is on bail, will return to court on June 24.
According to a court document, Mr Fiotakis is accused of attempting to dishonestly acquire a financial advantage from Allianz Insurance Australia, of $184,700 for himself or another person, by making false representations in support of an insurance claim, but knowing these to be false.
Mr Fiotakis allegedly falsely stated that he was the driver of a Lamborghini Gallardo when it was in an accident.
