Harness trainer Wayne Yole has seven days to relocate horses from a property at Sidmouth after alleged breaches were uncovered during a multi-agency inspection of the premises earlier this year.

Mr Yole is the father of industry participants Ben and Tim Yole, who both had their licenses suspended in 2024 more than a year after being named in a report by racing integrity expert Ray Murrihy, who was appointed to look into the harness racing industry in March, 2023.

The Tasmanian Racing Integrity Commissioner Sean Carroll said Mr Yole was issued a notice which imposes a condition on his trainer’s licence that he “is not permitted to house or train horses on 117 Valley Road, Sidmouth” on May 19, 2025.

Mr Yole was issued a show cause notice from TasRacing in April following an inspection of the property which was organised by Mr Carroll to gather information for the Commissioner’s assessment of the Code of Practice for Racehorse Welfare.

The assessment is being conducted to determine whether the animal welfare systems and processes it codifies meet contemporary community expectations as related to animal accommodation and protection from weather extremes, Mr Carroll said.

Representatives from Tasracing Integrity Unit, RSPCA Tasmania, Biosecurity Tasmania, and the West Tamar Council visited the Sidmouth property in March.

Mr Yole was then issued a show cause notice in relation to the property from TasRacing.

Mr Carroll acknowledged improvements had been made on the property in response to the show cause notice but said Tasracing had issued the notice imposing the condition on Mr Yole’s license.

Mr Yole has the right to appeal the decision to the Tasmanian Racing Appeal Board.
