A striking new “trading space” has opened in South Hobart, selling a remarkable selection of designer clothing, meticulously crafted accessories, and artefacts and curios sourced from around the world.
Elizabeth’s is located at 418 Macquarie St, at the site of the old Kookaburra second-hand store, and officially opened its doors in early June.
Owner Elizabeth Cosmos said she was driven to set up the boutique shop after falling into a “creative void”.
She described Elizabeth’s as “a trading space for sharing my interests in fashion, objects, and working with local makers”.
“The driving theme behind the store is … self-expression and individuality; each item in the store is curated by myself, allowing for a cohesive shopping experience at Elizabeth’s,” Ms Cosmos said.
“I am very excited to share with the community a range of archival designer clothing, selective vintage pieces, and investment items and accessories sourced from around Australia and internationally.”
Pieces by famed designers such as Yohji Yamamoto, Ann Demeulemeester, Maison Margiela, and Marithe François Girbaud are sold at Elizabeth’s, as well as locally made jewellery, antique accessories, bench-made leather goods, and adornments for the home.
“The response to the opening of the store has been very exciting and spirited,” Ms Cosmos said.
“I particularly enjoy meeting other creatives, artists, musicians, writers, and lovers of aesthetics. These people inspire me to expand the store into a space for holding exhibitions, live performances, and showcasing special works from local creatives.”
The first exhibition to be held at Elizabeth’s will be on Saturday, July 5, displaying works from artist Greta Diaz.
The Elizabeth’s website launches this week and can be visited at elizabethstasmania.com. You can see some of the goods on offer at the store on the Elizabeth’s Instagram page (@elizabethstasmania).
