Comedian Celia Pacquola has experienced much of what Tasmania has to offer — including a goat doof — and now, she’s inviting the rest of Australia to join in.

The Rosehaven actor is Tourism Tasmania’s latest recruit in its Off Season campaign, which includes a unique opportunity.

Tourism Tasmania has worked with operators in each region to design ten winter internships, ‘Winternships’, for the chance to get a unique experience ranging from babysitting Tasmanian devils to skippering a floating sauna.

Pacquola has test-run many of the opportunities, and is set to amplify the Wintership message across social media platforms to show what it really means to become a winter person.

In a video, the writer encourages everyone to “become a winter person with a winternship” and shows off a range of activities, including “the best goat doof I’ve ever been to”.

Tourism Tasmania chief executive Sarah Clark said it would spread the message of Tasmania being a unique winter destination in an effort to highlight what the state has to offer.

The Off Season initiative was important to keep the Apple Isle “front-of-mind” for holiday goers during the quieter months, she said.

“Winternships is a tongue-in-cheek invitation for Australians to apply for a Tasmanian internship experience, designed to help them become winter people,” Ms Clark said.

“We are always seeking authentic ways to tell our winter stories, build awareness of Tasmania as a destination by highlighting our tourism experiences and reach audiences who are considering where to holiday next.”

Tourism Tasmania has its sights set on the growing the Asian market, launching the latest initiative in Singapore through Tourism Tasmania’s partnership with global travel company Trip.com: “which is an important international visitor market for Tasmania.”

Winter is traditionally a tougher period for the state’s tourism industry, however the return of Dark Mofo has injected optimism.

For the chance to land a Winternship, applications will be available on Tourism Tasmania’s Discover Tasmania website from May 27 until June 17.

Successful applicants will receive return flights to Tasmania and accommodation to undertake their Winternship.

The Off Season campaign is live across Australia until August 31.
