Footy players from across Tasmania have the chance to win a share of $3000 in prize money when they tackle a dynamic one-day tournament on Launceston’s AFL oval on December 7.
AFL Tasmania has established the State AFL Nines Carnival for men’s and mixed teams, to be held at Hawthorn’s Tasmanian “home” ground UTas Stadium.
Get onboard for the inaugural event, says AFL Tasmania’s participation and programs manager, Aaron Roberts, who described the AFL Nines carnival as: “A dynamic new competition, with the rules of AFL Nines tailored to players of all skill levels. Shorter tackle-free games set on smaller fields ensures all players feel welcome, regardless of experience and ability.”
Teams from across the state are invited to register for the one-day fun-fest with $3000 in prize money on offer across the men’s and mixed divisions.
Roberts said statewide bragging rights were on the line with players getting the opportunity to run out on the ground at UTAS Stadium in the first competition of its kind in the state.
“Nines is a fun and social footy option allowing people of all abilities to engage,” he said.
“We hope people come from across Tassie to participate in this exciting tournament, and potentially take the prize money home.
“The competition is based on the highly successful ‘AFL Nines at Byron’ annual event, and we hope it can become a staple of the Tassie footy calendar.
“With all games held across one day, it’s the perfect chance for friends, colleagues and teammates to come together for a fun day of football.”
