A man was left in excruciating pain after stepping on the world’s most venomous fish at the mouth of a North Queensland creek.
Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed a man in his 30s had been transported to Ingham Hospital after the unfortunate encounter with the stone at the mouth of a creek – believed to be Palm Creek – along Bronte Road, the Orient, Hinchinbrook Shire, at 9am on Sunday morning.
A QAS spokeswoman said the man was experiencing severe pain but was listed in a stable condition.
The stonefish venom causes extreme pain and swelling that can kill tissues, inhibit limb function and cause shock.
