Famous celebrities who adopted their pets

MEET the A-list animal lovers came to the rescue for their fur babies.

FROM heart-throb Ryan Gosling to songbird Kelly Clarkson, our favourite celebrities are often spotted walking with their rescue pups, or posting selfies with their beloved felines.

Here’s a roundup of our favourite stars and their tales of rescue.

Kelly Clarkson

The original American Idol isn’t just well known for her chart-topping tunes. Referring to her last home as ‘Eddie’s Rescue Ranch’, the animal lover at one point had 30 dogs, 14 horses, four goats and two pigs but since becoming a mum to the two-legged kind, she’s put a curb on her rescue intake.

Ian Somerhalder

Self-proclaimed “cat man” and The Vampire Diaries star, Ian Somerhalder’s passion for animals is well-known. The Ian Somerhalder Foundation was established in 2010 and promotes the conservation of natural resources, such as forests, lands and, of course, wildlife. At last count, he had nine adoptees: four dogs, three cats, two horses.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron couldn’t be more proud to be the parent of her two adorable adopted fur babies, Johnny and Berkley. I mean, just look at those faces. Too cute.

Kristen Bell

Animal lover Kristen Bell says she chose to adopt because she “wanted a family member not a handbag”. She is an ambassador for myriad animal charities and helps promote animal kindness via her Instagram, which is filled with cute puppy pics.

Ryan Gosling

Referring to his rescue dog, George as “the great love of my life”, Ryan is rarely seen without his canine companion. George accompanies his celeb dad on set and has even appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Even wife Eva Mendes has a soft spot for the fluffy fella.

Chelsea Handler

Comedian Chelsea Handler is rarely seen without her adopted dog family — Chunk, Jax and Tammy. Chuck has an impressive following in his own right, boasting over 135k fans on Instagram and often appearing alongside Chelsea while filming her TV show. All three pooches travel in style with their famous mum, too, via private jet complete with bottles of champagne at their paws (check out Chuck’s Instagram for the enviable proof).

Margot Robbie

Aussie sweetheart Margot Robbie adopted rescue dog Boo Radley in February this year but it wasn’t her first adoptee. When Suicide Squad wrapped, Margot promptly adopted the rat her character was gifted but once her landlord found out Rat Rat had moved in with Margot, he was none too pleased and he was given to the film’s director to adopt.

George Clooney

While George’s three adopted dogs are almost as famous as his new twins, George’s first love was potbellied pig Max, who lived to the ripe age of 19. Einstein, a black cocker spaniel was adopted in 2010, followed by Louie, another cocker spaniel and basset hound Millie, in 2015.

Liam Hemsworth

Sorry Miley, Liam says his “true love” is his adopted pit bull, Tani. Liam also adopted labradoodle Dora after much encouragement from his girlfriend (Miley Cyrus) who also happens to be an avid animal lover and dog mum to four adopted pooches.
