A BEAMING Jim Stynes arrived with two dates last night - his stunning wife Sam and daughter Matisse.

Stynes wanted to make it a night to remember for his family.

"We got a phone call from the boss this morning saying that our daughter was welcome, so it's been a bit of a mad dash to find her something to wear," he said.

"She definitely knows what she likes and what she doesn't."

Stynes, who has inspired thousands of Australians with his battle against cancer, said it was special to have the pair by his side.

"They are my two great dates. The two most important women in my life."

The Demons legend said he had been heartened by the positive reaction to Channel 9's warts-and-all documentary on his health battle on Sunday night.

"I didn't want to do a doco for the sake of it. That was the most important part. I wanted to use it to help other people."

Every Heart Beats True: The Jim Stynes Story was the No. 1 show in Melbourne, outrating Junior MasterChef .

It peaked at 719,000 viewers and averaged 628,000 across its hour-long running time.

Many viewers were deeply affected by the show.

"My whole family found ourselves in tears. The man is incredibly brave," a reader wrote on heraldsun.com.au .

Love and Jimmy of Victoria posted: "There are no words to describe this beautiful soul."

Every Heart Beats True was filmed by close friends Jules Lund (Getaway) and Reach youth foundation co-founder Paul Currie.

Alfred Hospital neurosurgeon Jeffrey Rosenfeld said Stynes was such an inspiration he should be made Australian of the Year.

TV viewers agreed.

"A pity the likes of Cousins, Fevola and Akermanis don't take a page out of his book on how to conduct their lives," Janine, of Carrum Downs, posted.

Every Heart Beats True revealed that Stynes turned to controversial alternative therapies - including drinking his own urine, a coffee enema, meditation and reiki - as well as surgery, radiotherapy and drug treatment to stem the cancer.

"As for his mixing alternative medicines with those of his doctors, I say whatever gets you through it Jim," posted Mother of Teens, from Montrose.

"Jim has added a face to what thousands of people are going through. Pray for a cure."
